A CLASH BETWEEN NURTW AND TRICYCLE UNION

...........Popular NURTW member, Taiye Olose stabbed, hospitalized


One person was killed on Tuesday following a clash between members of the National Union of Road transport NURTW and Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria TOAN in Ganmo community, some few kilometres from Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

The two warring factions according to sources engaged in a serious fight leading to the death of Albarka the leader of the tricycle owners while Taye Olose the leader of NURTW was severely injured while several other members of the two unions also sustained very serious injuries.
The brutal fight led many residents and shop owners to seek shelter as they hurriedly closed to avoid being looted.
A member of NURTW who pleaded not to be named, said, “Initially the deceased popularly known as Alubarika, who is the chairman of the TOAN Ganmo chapter, had been permitted to move from NURTW to TOAN while some of it members later seek for permission to join NURTW.”
This according to him caused disagreement between the two unions and later resulted to another development from the state body under the new leadership of Alhaji Ariwo the chairman NURTW Kwara state chapter.
Another source from TOAN also buttress that the union was not pleased with how the NURTW accepted the TOAN members after being certified as members of TOAN a development he said led to the physical confrontation between the two parties.
Several members of the two warring transport unions reportedly sustained various degree of injuries and they were currently recuperating at a private hospital in Ilorin as at time of filling this report.
Policemen from the state command were later said to have restored peace among the warring factions.
